The Pōhue PurePod is just an hours drive from Christchurch, with beautiful views of the historic Port Levy bay, surrounded by rolling hills and magnificent rocky outcrops.
Your journey to the Pōhue PurePod starts with a scenic drive around Banks Peninsula past Charteris Bay and Diamond Harbour, then up over hill above Purau, before turning off the main road into the secure carparking area.
After you have parked your car and closed the gates, follow the walking track as it gently winds it way up through some regenerating native bush and past the rocky outcrop known locally as the Acropolis (named by the Greek bride of the farmer who received this land following his return from World War II).
As the track winds its way out of the bush, there is one last push uphill along an old farm fence before you round a small berm and the PurePod is revealed.
The Pōhue PurePod sits just below some macrocarpa trees, behind which you can glimpse The Monument, a rocky crag standing on the ridge between Purau and Port Levy. From the PurePod you have beautiful views across the tussock grasses and rolling hills down to the long, sheltered bay of Port Levy. With no one nearby, you can sit back, relax and soak in the views.
Stretch out on the deck or in the shade nearby and enjoy a complete absence of people and traffic. Comfortable deck chairs are provided, as is the most comfortable bed we can find. The PurePod has all the facilities you require including a fabulous shower, flush toilet, crisp linen, cooking and eating equipment including a gas hob and barbeque, tea coffee and milk; as well as an assortment of games, local reference books, a telescope and a whole lot of nothing to do!
Of course, if you are feeling a little more active, take a short walk across to the Acropolis outcrop and watch the sunset or for the more active take advantage of the many nearby Banks Peninsula hiking trails. If you are staying for a couple of nights, then perhaps head across to Akaroa to swim with the dolphins or go sea kayaking before returning to the PurePod in the afternoon to relax and take in the views.
Please note, this PurePod is not suitable for those with mobility challenges due to the walk and the steps up to the PurePod.
Dinner & Breakfast Package
You can either bring your own supplies, or preorder a dinner and breakfast food package when you make your reservation. Made from fresh local ingredients the evening eating includes a snack platter of local cheeses, house-cured Mt Cook Salmon, crackers and fresh baked bread with local seasonal fruit. Plus your choice of freshly pohutakawa smoked salmon, marinated steak or free-range herbed chicken breast (ready for you to cook on either the hob or barbecue) as well as a fresh salad of the day, pickles, gourmet potatoes and something decadently sweet to finish. Breakfast is freshly made organic muesli with yoghurt and berry compote. Vegetarian and gluten free options are available.
While you can walk back out to stock up on supplies, you’ll find that the desire to stay put and relax is overwhelming (plus it’s best not to walk the track in the dark), so please ensure you have enough food and drink to totally indulge in the isolation.
To include the Dinner & Breakfast Package on your booking, select this option at time of booking your PurePod stay (or let us know after you’ve made your booking and we can add this to your existing booking).
Check in & out
Check in is from 3pm (but please make sure you arrive in plenty of time to walk to the PurePod before dark). Check out is by 12pm on the day of departure. Once you have confirmed your booking, you will receive instructions on how to find your secret slice of paradise.
