Description

The Pōhue PurePod is just an hours drive from Christchurch, with beautiful views of the historic Port Levy bay, surrounded by rolling hills and magnificent rocky outcrops.

Your journey to the Pōhue PurePod starts with a scenic drive around Banks Peninsula past Charteris Bay and Diamond Harbour, then up over hill above Purau, before turning off the main road into the secure carparking area.

Native Bush Walk To Your PurePod

After you have parked your car and closed the gates, follow the walking track as it gently winds its way up through some regenerating native bush and past the rocky outcrop known locally as the Acropolis (named by the Greek bride of the farmer who received this land following his return from World War II).

Please note, the walk from the carpark to the Pōhue PurePod is 1.2km uphill and will take you around 25 minutes. If you would prefer a shorter walk (only 5 minutes), then the Korimako PurePod may be a better option for you.

As the track winds its way out of the bush, there is one last push uphill along an old farm fence before you round a small berm and the PurePod is revealed.

Pōhue PurePod secluded setting

The Pōhue PurePod sits just below some macrocarpa trees, behind which you can glimpse The Monument, a rocky crag standing on the ridge between Purau and Port Levy. From the PurePod you have beautiful views across the tussock grasses and rolling hills down to the long, sheltered bay of Port Levy. With no one nearby, you can sit back, relax and soak in the views.

Wow! When we were planning this trip in what feels like an eternity ago, I stumbled across this post on instagram about a PurePod and insisted “no matter what!!” we had to stay…even if just for one night. You always hope the things you see on these social media sites live up to expectation. PurePods far exceeds them. What a truly amazing place.

We went to sleep with doors open to hear the animals and birdlife and it’s something we will never forget. Our only regret is we only have time for 1 night. We will definitely be back to New Zealand and we will 100% visit a PurePod again. Thanks to you all, so far this has been the highlight of our holiday!

Things to do

Stretch out on the deck or in the shade nearby and enjoy a complete absence of people and traffic. Comfortable deck chairs are provided, as is the most comfortable bed we can find. The Pōhue PurePod has all the facilities you require including a fabulous shower, flush toilet, crisp linen, cooking and eating equipment including a gas hob and barbeque, tea coffee and milk; as well as an assortment of games, local reference books, a telescope and a whole lot of nothing to do!

Of course, if you are feeling a little more active, take a short walk across to the Acropolis outcrop and watch the sunset or for the more active take advantage of the many nearby Banks Peninsula hiking trails. If you are staying for a couple of nights, then perhaps head across to Akaroa to swim with the dolphins or go sea kayaking before returning to the Pōhue PurePod in the afternoon to relax and take in the views.

Dinner & Breakfast Package

You can either bring your own supplies, or preorder a dinner and breakfast food package when you make your reservation. Made from fresh locally sourced ingredients the evening meal includes a grazing platter of homemade chutney, relish, pesto, pâté and pickles, locally sourced charcuterie and cheeses. The main includes the chef’s selection of fresh seafood, lamb or beef (prepared and ready for you to cook on either the hob or barbecue, with instructions provided) accompanied with vegetable kebabs, fresh seasonal side salad, plus a delightfully sweet treat to finish. Breakfast is homemade bread or muffin, organic toasted muesli, fruit compote and yoghurt. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and low fat or low sugar options are available on request.

While you can walk back out to stock up on supplies, you’ll find that the desire to stay put and relax is overwhelming (plus it’s best not to walk the track in the dark), so please ensure you have enough food and drink to totally indulge in the isolation.

To include the Dinner & Breakfast Package on your booking, select this option at time of booking your PurePod stay (or let us know after you’ve made your booking and we can add this to your existing booking).

Check in & out

Check in is from 3pm (but please make sure you arrive in plenty of time to walk to the PurePod before dark). Check out is by 12pm on the day of departure. Once you have confirmed your booking, you will receive instructions on how to find your secret slice of paradise.

We had an absolutely delightful night/morning. Thankyou so much for the beautifully sourced & presented breakfast & dinner. Everything was so fresh & tasted great – think maybe it was too much for us two… so please don’t take it in a bad way that we couldn’t eat it all.
