Description

The Korimako PurePod is just 90 minutes drive north-east from Christchurch, nestled into native bush along the Greta Valley coastline, with beautiful views out to the bay and across to Motunau Island. On a clear day you can see right down to Banks Peninsula and with an abundance of birdlife in the native bush surrounding the PurePod, you will be treated to a gentle chorus of birdsong throughout your stay.

Your journey to the Korimako PurePod starts with a scenic drive through a beautiful and historic farming area. Take your time and enjoy the scenery, which switches from rolling farmland to forest and back to farmland again. If you are lucky you might even get to see a cow or two wandering right beside the road or meet the local farmer moving a mob of sheep along the road.

Native bush walk to your PurePod

After about 25 minutes you will reach the PurePod carpark. Leave your large luggage items in your locked car (it will be safe) then follow the walking track as it gently winds its way up through the native bush.

The walk is just under 450m and will take you around 10 minutes. As you walk, keep an ear out for all the birds, including bellbirds (korimako), fantails (piwakawaka) and the occasional rifleman (tītipounamu). Please note, this PurePod is not suitable for those with mobility challenges due to the walk and the steps up to the PurePod.

Korimako PurePod secluded setting

As you round the last corner you will get your first glimpse of the Korimako PurePod, sitting in a small clearing surrounded by native bush. Once you get up to the PurePod, turn around and take in the breathtaking views out to the bay and Motunau Island. In the early days of this farm, the only access was by sea, so any materials sent to or from the farm went via this bay –  imagine what it was like loading heavy wool onto small boats to be ferried out to the coastal trader ships on a cold winters day!

PurePods luxurious facilities

The PurePod has all the facilities you require including a fabulous shower, flush toilet, crisp linen, cooking and eating equipment including a gas hob and barbeque, tea coffee and milk; as well as an assortment of games, local reference books, a telescope and a whole lot of nothing to do!

What an experience! The location is so picturesque, set amongst bush with a perfect view of the sea. Everything was of an amazingly high standard including the bed – so comfy! Loved the shower with such a stunning view out to sea. We had the meal pack as well and were very appreciative of all the yummy treats included and thought it to be good value. We were lucky enough to enjoy cloudless skies over night so laying in bed stargazing was a magnificent bonus … just wow!

Things to do

Guided Farm Tour

Learn about the rich history dating back to 1850 on this one-hour drive through the farm as the farmer shares some of the challenges and triumphs of the original family settlers while you take in the breathtaking scenic coastline. As an added bonus, you’ll also get to visit the local seal colony. The cost is $99 to add this to your booking.

Mountain Bike Ride

If you enjoy bike riding, there is an off-road mountain bike looped 8km track, with beautiful views towards the Hurunui River mouth and the Pegasus Bay coastline. The track is well signposted, but you’ll need the map supplied by the farmer to get started. The cost is $18.50 per rider.

The track includes some steep gradients for that extra bit of fun. With an average fitness level, you’ll be able to complete the track in around 1.5 hours.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to miss out if you don’t have your own bikes with you, as you can hire electric mountain bikes from the farmer for just $80 per rider.

Select these options at the time of booking your PurePod stay

Check in & out

Check in is from 3pm (but please make sure you arrive in plenty of time to walk to the PurePod before dark). Check out is by 12pm on the day of departure. Once you have confirmed your booking, you will receive instructions on how to find your secret slice of paradise.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful weekend. Everything is so well thought out from the reflective black glass that brings the outside inside, the flow of air through even on a still & hot day, the beautifully peaceful location & the amazing simplistic but beautifully pulled together food. It’s the thought & the little touches that make this so special. If feels like its gone so quickly yet we fee its been ages since we were home with the hustle and bustle of our lives.

Thanks for a lovely stay. Was wonderful to arrive to a delicious, home cooked meal. Everything was very clean & we loved the personal touches like the lovely vase of flowers. The outdoor chairs & blankets were perfect & we were lucky enough to have a clear enough night to see the amazing stars! Thanks again, will recommend.
